Please remember that I do not work for you. It is not appropriate for
you to take a tone of ordering me around. You have already been told
what the likely fix is for the problems you are having. I'm not going
to continue a long conversation with someone who is treating me rudely.

Which is exactly what makes me think you are using a screwy font. The
default is not "way too large", nor, for that matter, does gnucash
pick the default. The default is a gnome-1 configuration setting if I
understand correctly.

Note that you are probably using gnome 2, and gnucash is a gnome-1
program, so gnome-2 configuration tools will generally not affect it.

You can change the "register font" in the Preferences menu, under
Register. Mine is set to helvetica.

I don't know whether that changes every font or not; you should try it
and see. If you need to change the gnome-1 configuration settings,
you'll have to ask someone who is more gnome-aware than me.

Mine is set to
-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-*-120-*-*-p-*-iso10646-1
which has matched
-Adobe-Helvetica-Medium-R-Normal--12-120-75-75-P-67-ISO8859-1

It is already.

You didn't ask me that, you asked someone else. You can get a
screenshot (in xwd format) at http://becket.becket.net/screenshot.

It's rude to ask this in a way that suggests you think that people are
lying to you. You've been told by two different people trying to help
that we get umlauts just fine; you've been told what the likely fix
is, and your reaction has been to figure we must be lying.
