Sounds like you checked only depends, not recommends or suggest. I have now read the (short) conversation you pointed me to. Nothing controversial about that. How did you check dependencies? Did you check for build-dependencies too? Do you track the bugreports filed? Do you have a plan (either published or in your head) of the steps needed for this, or rely on actions by others (like the one from Pierre Habouzit waking me up)? Oh, and thanks for your effort! GD 1.x is truly getting old. I would be happy to drop the old version of the library, and believe only the python-gd vs. python-gd2 to stopping it from happening - but I did not investigate myself.
