Hi Bruce,
I am fortunate that a friendly sys admin in the Linux Users of Victoria, has set up some scripts for me so that as I copy my images on an SD card to the Working Directory on an SSD; my Raw Files are automatically mirrored on an external drive. Then when I am satisfied that everything is safe, I format the SD and CF cards in my camera. Then when I have finished processing my images, I move the RAW files to a RAID drive. When the script (based on inotify) detects that the RAW files have been moved the mirror reflects that state and clears the mirror of those files.

I start every session with a freshly formatted card set, I run 16Gb SD cards and a 32Gb CF card remains in the slot all the time.

I am grateful for the tremendous support I have received from the Linux Community over the last 23 years.

Oh...sorry, no, I don't hook my camera up to the computer for transferring images!
I put the memory card in a card reader for that purpose.
But I wipe my cards in-camera.
