Similar story with my buddy's adult son, I told him I thought he should keep his shoes on B/C there were lots of toe stubbers on the deck, but he said harumph, and then halfway through the race another accidental jibe, the bridge-,mounted windward-sheeting car came crashing down right across his toes, raking a big gouge across them - I stared in horror, waiting for the blood to start squirting all over. But it didn't happen! He didn't seem to have any more blood in his toes than a bird. He just said, Damn!, then laughed it off. Ouch! When I was a young lad my friend’s mother was stretched out in the cockpit with her toes on the traveler. An accidental jibe removed one, which did not make for a happy rest of the day. This year we're getting Alera ready for a full season. Just got the cover off, full cleaning this week then over to Gig Harbor for a needed haul out and everything that goes with it. I have been working through back pain for a number of years. Getting old is not for the feint of heart. Some news from me. I have moves up to a new sail boat!. I found an absolutely immaculate C&C41 named Felice Bear. You can find the boat on YouTube. I purchased her in Vancouver and brought her over to Victoria a couple weeks ago. I am getting her ready to do a little cruising in July. I have an extra C&C35 Mk2 for sale now :-) if anybody is interested it’s in Victoria BC and I have a slip with it. Touche' is doing great! It's in the best condition ever. It sits in its slip ready to cruise east to Pensacola or beyond. Its owner, however, is not great. A few weeks ago, I was cleaning and prepping Touche' to head east. I had crew scheduled. I was excited to try out the new solar panels for some extended anchoring out around the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The weather was looking awesome. Cool nights and southerly winds for anchoring on the north side of the islands. Then I slipped while cleaning the boat. Caught myself. Didn't think much about it until a couple days later when I developed sciatica type pain and significant weakness in my right leg. Deemed it unsafe to move around the boat with 1.25 of 2 legs. MRI showed a bulging disc and a couple other issues. Boo! Got a spinal steroid shot to kill the pain. Surgery this Thursday. 3-6 month recovery. I missed 2-3 weeks of some of the best cruising weather I've seen in recent years. Really bummed. By the time I recover, the summer heat will be here. 😡🤬☹️ Arrrrgh!! -- Dennis C.
