I also use barnacle buster and let that site for half a day. Gets all the salt deposit and gunk out, then runs with fresh water for a bit before dumping in the pink.

Flushing antifreeze through is good also. I would also flush with saltaway, or something similar first. Let that sit for a few hours to overnight . Then do your winterize process.
