I have had success with Interlux Interdeck. Is basically Brightside with non
skid additive already in can.

The grip is not as good as kiwi deck but it comes in many colours and is very
easily applied. Have used the grey colour on our former J27 and it matched
well. Used beige in some of the areas on Frers 33 and it matches the existing
non skid perfectly. In both boats the non skid is in separate areas separated
by the gloss. This makes applying non skid a localized affair. On the Frers I
used it when moving w3inches or epoxy filling old holes from no longer used
deck gear or moving spin pole mounts (the new forespar pole ends are 2 inches
shorter than the old ones). The Interdeck looks good and needs minimal prep
before rolling on. Note that the Frers decks had previously been painted so we
were not replacing gelcoat non skid with paint non skid.

IMO Kiwi Grip has better grip but takes longer to apply, costs a bit more and
can cause a lot of complaints from crew kneeling on it (foredeck) or sitting on
it (rail) but has always been on my eventual to do list as my preferred choice.
For now when only a small section at a time requires non-skid freshening I use
Inter-deck and it looks identical to the rest of the boat.

Subject: Stus-List painting strategy for deck Interlux vs Pettit

Hi all,

I'm planning paint my boat's deck in stages, roll and tip. I've chosen Kiwi
Grip for the non-skid. Ten years ago I tried a two part primer and Interlux
Perfection and painted the transom only. I picked a day with too much heat and
the sun hit the transom each afternoon so I had to grind/sand that off and
recoat. I ended up using Brightside and it looked very professional but is now
showing some problems after ten years.

I just tried Pettit EZpoxy for the first time on a helm seat. Same price as
Interlux but flows out better and easier. The paint went on easy and looks
great. The primer, EZ Prime, stinks more than the finish coat, EZ Poxy but the
smell goes away once the paint dries. Nothing stinks as much as Bilge Coat
which I find smells for days so I'd like to avoid Brightside which is a close
cousin.

Two part paints are supposed to last longer but they cost more and I want to
avoid all the carcinigens and eternal mixing of two part primer, two part
finish coat, two part flattener.

Any opinions out there, Pettit vs Interlux or some other system?
