I was surprised to find gate valves on my 1981 40'. I thought C & C would have known better. Replaced them all with proper seacocks.

Subject: Re: Stus-List Water valves Agree with the comments so far. To help understand comments/concerns on gate valves, Google images of them. The issue with them is the stem may corrode so it no longer works or is no longer connected to the gate. You turn the stem (handle) several turns until it stops and think the valve is open or closed. However, the stem may not have pulled the gate open or pushed it closed. So unless you pour water into the scupper and see what happens, you won't know if it is working. The same concern exists for globe valves although globe valves are not commonly found. 1/4 turn marine grade valves are the new standard. If the hoses are more than 10 years old, replace them.
