Mike I have a length about 18 inches, of covered wire like lifeline wire
that is attached one end to the boom bail and the other to the moveable
block on the main sheet. That helps to reduce the sheet length required
when sailing off the wind a lot especially on Alianna where the advantage
is 7:1 to the fixed ratchet block and cleat on the traveller. Works great.
Also Alianna’s boom is about a foot shorter than the standard setup so I
have a high aspect ration main. That caused an interesting problem when
Doyle made my new main to standard measure. It was really really loose
footed so they had to make another new sail to fit properly. This old 35
mkii design is really a nice sailing boat. I use my main even when single
handed a little extra work but well worth it.
