I just got my new racing sails from Z Sails yesterday, which means at a minimum, I have my original mainsail (cross-cut 4 batten dacron) which I would be happy to pass on for the cost of shipping. It came from the PO, but I think it is in serviceable condition. Otherwise, I will give it to Sail Bags to get another free bag. I can’t use it because it has standard mast slides and I have installed a Tides Marine Strong Track system.
I spent several hours sailing with Chris Zaleski from Z sails after we got them set up on the boat (Carbon tai-radial 145% and main). I can’t recommend him highly enough (and he has made plenty of C&C sails). I have never had such a knowledgable sail maker come show me all the details of setting up and trimming sails before. In fact, only once has a sailmaker come sailing with me after delivery and I was thoroughly unimpressed with the information I got. These new sails look nothing like what I have been using. The shape is different (flatter and more uniform) and the ability to see the effects of adjustments dramatically different. I have read about draft position, halyard tension, Cunningham etc. and struggled to apply what I read, but it was so much easier to see the expected effects of each adjustment with these sails. I am really anxious to see how this translates to speed when we race next week. One other tidbit- we have a new club member who I talked to yesterday who just bought a 22’ Catalina to sail while waiting for his C&C 30 be built and delivered! I was under the impression that when US Watercraft went bankrupt, the C&C name died with it. He claims he is waiting in line behind a number of C&C 30’s being built in Newport (by Tartan?) Anyone else heard these rumors? Dave Aries 1990 C&C 34+ New London, CT
