I wanted to see the difference so I looked it up and as I've found these photos online I thought I'd share them
It looks to me that in some of the later boats (1995) they didn't remove it, they raised it. This is a link to a photo of a 1995 36 XL (which is a 34 XL or 34/36 XL as I understand it). http://newimages.yachtworld.com/resize/1/77/26/6297726_20170712182519739_1_XLARGE.jpg?f=/1/77/26/6297726_20170712182519739_1_XLARGE.jpg&w=924&h=693&t=1500885807000 >From this listing: http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1995/C%26C-36-XL-3107726/Halifax/Canada#.WkUDIFWnFaQ As you said, it is gone completely in this 1991 model: http://newimages.yachtworld.com/resize/1/38/87/5963887_20161006104632612_1_XLARGE.jpg?f=/1/38/87/5963887_20161006104632612_1_XLARGE.jpg&w=924&h=693&t=1475754497000 Here is a 1990, and yes, it does look awkward: http://newimages.yachtworld.com/resize/1/90/75/6549075_20171201115037324_1_XLARGE.jpg?f=/1/90/75/6549075_20171201115037324_1_XLARGE.jpg&w=924&h=693&t=1512129037000 And the original drawing: http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/brochures/34foot+/34+b2pg08.htm Cheers.
