In the East we had an unusually snowy winter and major amounts of ice beneath
it. In Halifax for the first time in 20 years the Northwest Arm froze
completely for half its length and there were ice skaters enjoying the
activity. By late April there was still ice blocking the Arm completely. On
April 25 we were sitting in our club and saw two boats from Armdale Yacht Club
sailing out to the Harbour. This was the first weekend that the ice had
cleared allowing anyone out of Armdale by water

Apparently when they returned later in the day the ice had moved back and
blocked their path. Some careful maneuvering and a bit of ice breaking was
involved.

Normally this body of water does not freeze over. Also the huge amounts of
snow and cold winter and Spring made for a very late start to our boating
season. We did not even launch Persistence until April 30 and that was only by
force of will and digging paths thru snow banks to commission the boat

Subject: Re: Stus-List Boat time and weather

Our weather pattern here in the middle states has not bee conducive to boating;
it rains or has a high percentage chance of rain almost every day; plus, the
Ohio River has been up over its normal banks for over two weeks... very unusual
for mid summer. I have not been able to get into my dock because it has been
under water.... Sooo; I was wondering if anyone has any good boating stories or
getting much sailing time in?
