Barbara We use no slug for main clew. Noticed there was none this spring on our older main and switched to the Velcro strap suggestion. Turns out this is exactly the arrangement we also had on the newer main. Works very well. The only downside was that I spent $25 on a new spectra Velcro boom strap and then discovered I already had one that was in the bag with the other main.
I was concerned that the clew would move off to the side if not centered by a slug but that is not the case. This works much better than a slug in the boom Mike Persistence 1987 Frers 33 From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of dwight veinot via CnC-List Sent: Tuesday, July 07, 2015 10:15 AM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Cc: dwight veinot Subject: Re: Stus-List FW: Boom out haul slide question Barbara I don't know what boat you have but if I understand you correctly maybe you just need a new clew slug on your main sail...any sailmaker can help you choose one to fit your boom track and with a couple of feet of webbing, a strong needle and some waxed thread you could install it yourself or maybe just do it like Joel suggested...the slide on Alianna is not integral to the boom but rather a part of the sail, maybe yours is different Dwight Veinot C&C 35 MKII, Alianna Head of St. Margaret's Bay, NS d.ve...@bellaliant.net<mailto:d.ve...@bellaliant.net> On Tue, Jul 7, 2015 at 10:02 AM, Jack Fitzgerald via CnC-List <cnc-list@cnc-list.com<mailto:cnc-list@cnc-list.com>> wrote: Barbara I did the basically the same boom modification that Bill mentions to Honey back in 1998/99. The mast person can adjust the mainsail out haul by hand without using the reefing winch. Stop by the boat (berthed at SYC) next time you are in Savannah and take a look. the original out haul arrangement stunk to say the least. I got an extrusion and end fittings from Charleston Spars, put a 2 foot Harken Ball bearing outhaul track on the end, a six part block outhaul inside the boom, and love it compared to having to run up on the deck and crank a little winch on the boom. Also gave me an opportunity to add a foot to the short boom.
