Brad, We had a lot of winches on Perception when we bought her needing servicing. I took them all off one fall, brought them home and thoroughly cleaned all the old grease out of them - many hours of soaking in Mineral spirits, and using a stiff brush. All were fine after, and worked great! Subsequently I have reduced the number of winches, and changed 2 to Andersons, as we have migrated to cruising.

The plan in my little head right now is to 1) change out the halyards for all synthetic, 2) try to pull new wire from the top of the mast and rig new instruments, the old don't work anyways so I'm not losing anything even if I'm unsuccessful, 3) check bushings/trade out sheaves after the mast comes down in the fall. Theres a lot of talk about self tailing winches, aftermarket or original equipment? Eight Barient winches on ours, none are self tailing and all need servicing, I see West Marine sells springs and pawls, I should get a couple of sets for the inevitable loss, if needed I should be able to pick up bearings at a local bearing shop? Thank you for all your advise and suggestions Brad Sent, miraculously through cyberspace, from my iPad! > On Feb 21, 2015, at 04:28, cnc-list-requ...@cnc-list.com wrote: > > Send CnC-List mailing list submissions to > cnc-list@cnc-list.com > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > cnc-list-requ...@cnc-list.com > > You can reach the person managing the list at > cnc-list-ow...@cnc-list.com > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of CnC-List digest..." > Today's Topics: > > 1.
