I quit using 4200 a few years ago.  I use LifeSeal instead now.

I think you could use either in this case.  If you choose butyl, order the
good stuff from here:
http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/butyl_tape

The butyl from RV stores tends to be stringy and doesn't work as well.

My opinion is if the deck hardware will move or flex, use butyl, otherwise
use a curing sealant such as LifeSeal.
