Over the years I've used 4200 5200 and that other stuff...I can't call the number off from sikaflex. (although the sikaflex was below the water lime on a thru hull). Last time around I went with the butyl tape from mainsail's site. I set my new handrails, rebedded the traveler (after following mainsail's instructions for thru bolting) and my new hatch with it. It is a little messy and kind of struggle to clean up the ooze for a nice neat job but, not a single leak for 2 years. I'm going to pull the rest of the deck hardware this winter (if the boat doesn't sell of course!) and use the mainsail method to rebed them all. I've probably got half of the deck hardware done so far. Danny

The guy over at Maine Sail goes to great lengths to provide examples on how to do a good installation with butyl. My mast collar came out yesterday afternoon and the balsa core was a nice yellow and dry. Reassuring.
