Edd,

When Perceptions batteries died we picked up 2 group 31's at Costco (can't
remember who makes them - but when I looked at the options they were the
best rated especially when price is considered ..

Josh,

Not really. Even when cruising, I will run the engine for 20
minutes to pick up a mooring or depart one and give the system a good
charge. I've also replaced all my lights with LEDs and usually try to draw
as little as possible.

I have two Group 31s now from Sears
(http://www.sears.com/diehard-platinum-marine-battery-group-size-31m-price/p

-02850131000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1> &blockNo=1&blockType=G1).
Three year warranty, and, of course, this is now year four, and one is
deader than an original series red-shirt crewman.

                All the best,

                Edd

You have no fear of missing the additional amp-hrs? I love being able to go
many days without hooking up. Remember draining less than 50% (~12.2v no
load) starts to decrease over all battery life.

I was in a pinch and bought what was available at the closest availble
store. Autozone marine...seem to be doing fine 2 years later.

Listers,

I have two very-large AGM house banks and one of them is at 12.7 volts and
the other is at 11.9. I tried charging the latter, and it slowly drained
back down to 11.9 after a couple of weeks.

Assuming I can't get it to hold a charge again, I'm thinking of replacing it
with a small engine-starter type of battery and use ALL to start/run the
engine and then flip to 1 when in other modes.

Any recommendations for a good all-purpose (and inexpensive) sealed battery
good for giving the engine a good starting jolt?

All the best,

Edd
