There can be lots of simple reasons why an engine overheats. My Universal overheats if the belt is loose.
Pull the hose from the mix elbow and see if you have good flow. If you do, maybe the elbow is clogged with soot. If you don't have good flow, work your way upstream until you find why. Dennis C.
