Also note that if you sit near the fluxgate with a cellphone (magnetic speaker) and a cell phone holder with a magnetic flap the boat will likely not go straight at all!

Same with big ships at anchor. Some years ago, A guy with a Nonsuch 36 under auto helm T-boned a container ship in the harbour while he was below and not watching. The steel hull got him.
