When I had Imzadi on the hard for a refit in 2009 I pulled the pedestal to
replace the bearings, the idler plate under the cockpit sole, and the throttle
and gearshift cables. It turned out to make changing the fuel tank and
replacing the engine a lot easier too, when the steering was out of the way.

As long as the pedestal was in the garage, I decided to renew the white coating
– which was pretty dingy after 30+ years. I ended up using a white Rustoleum
intended for aluminum. Sanded the pedestal with something like 150-200 grit and
primed per the instructions on the Rustoleum can. Painted with a matte finish
paint instead of gloss white. Still looks very good after 4 years of exposure
and the finish seems hard enough that there are no scratches or scuff marks –
yet.

Edd,

My experience is that Edson's powder coating isn't the best anyway. If you
want black, take it to a powder coater and have it powder coated black before
you install it.

It's on my project list to remove my pedestal and have it powder coated
locally. I installed an Edson engine control module on my pedestal in 2003.
It's already showing separation of the coating.

Dave,

The only downside is that my pedestal is all black. Edson said I can get this
replacement in any color, as long as it’s white (everyone’s a comedian)

        All the best,
