I changed my hoses when it was cold out. Smell is less .. impacting .. when it's cold. But it's harder to get the hoses off. They'll be hard to remove in any case. If I was doing it over again I'de use one of those multi-tools to put a slit in the hose end and replace the fitting if it got damaged. Would save a lot of frustration.
Have those big heavy duty contractor grade garbage bags on hand. They'll contain anything....
