I put the dripless (PSS), as well. This was part of the bigger project (new 
shaft (SS), new cutlass bearing and new coupling). No issues, no drips.

If I was not changing the shaft, I would have probably gone with the Teflon 
packing (like Dennis) (simpler and substantially lower cost and almost the same 
benefits).

Please note that you might need more room (an inch or two) between the shaft 
log and the engine for your dripless shaft. And that the venting tube has to be 
mounted with the end above the water line (which may or may not be an issue on 
your boat; I had to be quite creative with that).

I put the dripless on, I think in '91. Haven't thought about it much since
then.

I suppose if they have any drawbacks, it could be that you tend to forget
about them. I think have re-compressed the hose twice, once when I changed
the engine, shaft and tranny in '95 and maybe once since then. No drips.
