Forespar will tell you the T-track you need and will also sell you the car to make it all work nicely. (Defender and others will have both)
To install, use panhead bolts that correspond to the T-track and tap threads in the mast. The reason you want the track (rather than a ring) is to store the pole on the mast. Yes, it adds weight aloft, but it keeps the deck clear. Like most things in sailing, it's a trade-off and everyone will have their personal preference.
