I believe what you are describing as "dial in" is called a deviation check
on the fluxgate compass. You need to do very slow circles (counter
clockwise works for me) and if you go too fast that will be displayed and
you will have to start again. Usually after about 1 complete circle you
should see a compass deviation number, anything 3 degrees and below is good.
You can also adjust the heading angle to be the same as that indicated by
your chart plotter or magnetic compass if you know it to be correct and your
fluxgate compass reading is significantly different. I have discovered that
sometimes the fluxgate compass may give very erroneous indications if the
boat is not moving forward. Make sure all 5 wires from the fluxgate compass
are making good electrical contact at the spade connectors on the control
head...take them off and reestablish a connection and use some electrical
contact cleaner on the connections to improve things.

Can I dile in the fluxgate compass usint the control head for the st4000?
Or what is the the 3 circle procedure for this process? It is the
first time I have tried to use the auto helm st4000. When I put it on
auto, it holds the course just fine its just reading like 209 degrees
when the boat is tied up at the dock at like meg 340 degrees?
Can I do a large dile in and then swing the the boat for deveation?>
