I know. It sounds wrong, and it feels wrong, too, until you get the hang of it. Actually works like a charm until you can get around to changing the cams. I think we stopped the halyard slippage for the better part of last summer.

Seems to make a big difference. You can easily inspect them for wear. I've had to replace the cams several times. When you buy the cam, the spring is included since it's part of the assembly. You might also inspect the bottom plate, but it seems to wear less, and it not as critical.
