Joe,

I just ordered 3 from the seller you recommended.

Last year I bought some from Hong Kong that had a square array of LEDs attached
by pigtails to an 1142 type base. They were not
expensive and worked well in the now yellowed round plastic original cabin
light fixtures on my 27, but obviously they would not
be suitable for all fixtures. In that application they worked good since the
diodes all pointed in the same direction.

No – they are much cooler than the incandescent bulbs they replace.

I have noticed that LED bulbs at home get surprisingly hot. Any heat issues
with these?

FYI: I have bought a few 1142 size cabin light bulbs from this seller and they
work great. The 1142s are 2 pin 2 contact bulbs
used in a lot of cabin lights, but not common in cars. If you are not careful
shopping you get 1157s which have offset pins and
use the shell as a contact for 3 total connections (dim-bright).
