I've been using Cetol SDR on my exterior teak for the past 3 years. It's very thin so you need lots of coats and it takes a while to fully dry.
Now it's spot coat any areas that have worn through first, then just one or two coats over everything each spring to freshen it up. This winter I used it to even up the colour of my interior teak, it was heavily sun bleached at the companionway. One coat of this brushed on then wiped off brought everything back to a nice medium dark teak colour, then a few coats of semi-gloss polyurethane varnish to finish it off. It looks really good now and much easier to take care of. I bought mine at a local building supply (Kent's), but they haven't stocked the Teak colour for the past couple of years. The main reason that I decided to try it was the price, it is only $45.00 a gallon vs $45.00 a quart for Cetol Marine. Cheers Rick Taillieu Nemesis '75 C&C 25 #371 Shearwater Yacht Club Halifax, NS. I totally agree about the exterior going grey. On my exterior wood I was very pleased with the results of Cetol's SDR natural teak. The product is not made specifically for marine use. SDR stands for siding, deck, and (something...railing?). I used it because it doesn't leave a glossy finish that needs maintained. I maintain a golden finish on the exterior teak I used Cetol marine which has lasted fine for 5 years now, some parts exposed to weather during winter.5 coats on a totally cleaned surface when the rails were off the boat. For interior teak I now prefer lemon oil because the Deftoil soaked in really good so I only need to clean and brightened it and lemon oil which is much lighter oil and easier to apply works fine.I brighten my interior teak with lemon oil at the start of every season.that's it I am happy til next year Dwight Veinot C&C 35 MKII, Alianna Head of St. Margaret's Bay, NS _____ From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of Joel Aronson Sent: April 23, 2013 1:30 PM To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Subject: Re: Stus-List Burma Teak Oil I used Deks last year. You can get it in colors but I just go with natural. It has real lite varnish in it which helps it last longer and protect better. Put it on thick enough that it shines and let it sit 15 min. Re-apply. After an additional 15 min wipe off the excess. Looks like a hand rubbed oil finish but last more than one season. Any one using this stuff now? I searched online and could not find it anywhere. _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com _____ No virus found in this message.
