I installed an Isotherm unit, last year. Go to their web site
http://www.indelwebastomarine.com/home/us/html/10214.html , and download their
catalog. It will give you lots of information telling you how to choose the
right unit for your application (even if you choose a different brand). The
compressor is very quiet, and can be mounted almost anywhere the tubing will
allow. They suggest not putting the compressor in an enclosed space without
ventilation, but I installed mine under the dinette area, with no ill effect. I
bought and installed model GE 150. It has a flat evaporator, but if you want to
make ice, you'll need to get a small, medium or large O evaporator. The
compressor comes attached to a mounting bracket, and at first glance it isn't
obvious how to separate the two. However, once you do, it's easy to mount the
bracket, and then snap the compressor in place. The thermostat doesn't have an
off position, so you'll need to remove the fuse (or have a dedicated circuit
breaker instead of a fuse) if you don't want it running all the time. It's also
a good idea to add extra insulation to your ice box. I injected foam behind the
bulkhead, between the stove and the icebox. I also added a piece of closed cell
foam under the counter top, as there was no insulation over the top of the ice
box. Remember to plug the drain hole, or cold air will leak out of the ice box.
I mad a plug out of silicone, and I remove it if I have to drain any liquid
that might spill.
