Hi Paul,

That pic looks familiar.  I just bought a 1975 30 MK1 with a bad mast step.
In my case the wood underneath was rotted and the wooden step had collapsed
a few inches.  This one looks to be still holding up.  There is a hole in
the aluminum shoe directly under the mast to allow drainage into the bilge -
mine was plugged from years of gunk and it looks like that is the case with
yours.  Regardless, if you pull the mast out to repair the shoe my guess is
that you will find the wood underneath in need of replacement.  It was not a
bad job - use the old ones to measure and then glass in new ones.  My boat
only had two supports - most repairs that I have seen use three - so I added
one.  Take lots of pictures before you start of where the mast sits in both
height and horizontal location to aid in re-installation.
