We were forced to sail shop last fall when in race two of five our well worn
155 split. We finished the series with a beautiful Kevlar 155 racing sail that
came with the boat. It goes down to the deck and can not be roller furled. We
ordered a new roller 155 and a new main to match. We got Dacron, but it is
called a square weave, from Dimension Polyant. Both sails are tri radial cut.
We used a loft out of Pensacola Fl called Schurr Sails. The owner/designer
does a lot of business here on Lake Lanier and in the SE. He came and measured
the boat for us. We are very happy with the sails. We were out yesterday,
sunny, 65, 8 to 12 knots all day.
We got quotes from all the name brands and they were all within a few hundred
dollars. We went with Schurr because of the responsiveness and after the sale
support. We can carry the 155 at 14 knots and while we are overpowered, we can
still hold gusts to 18. Above 18 we roll it down to a 135 or a 100. The foam
luff keeps it flat. We love the shape of our new sails and they keep us legal
in the cruising fleet. We will be selling the racing sails if anyone is
interested. We have the Kevlar 155. Also a Kevlar 100. Both are in great shape.
You can see them on saillanier.com under the happy snaps the Bill Sears Series,
sail number 44937.
