Subject: Re: Stus-List Transitioning from Racing to Cruising?

All,

I think Joe's hitting the nail right in the head.

When the Enterprise is race-ready, the water tanks are empty, there are two
spinnakers in the V-berth and the dodger/bimini, and their frames, sit in the
garage.

When I go away for the weekend on a cruise, it's a crazy time loading up the
water and putting the chutes in my car just to undo everything in time for the
next Wednesday night's race.

The trip to Mystic with the C&C'ers was such a pleasure and is changing how I
look at sailing. There's also been some unwelcome changes in the racing
environment in our area that have been a contributor.

I'm considering more casual racing, perhaps even non-spinnaker, and keep the
boat more cruise-ready, but then I need to figure out which crew I would drop
-- and how to go about dropping them.

Then again, I may just keep things as is and continue to try and achieve
maximum warp on the race courses.

Thanks to all for sharing their experiences.

All the best,

Edd

I did this a long time ago. The day has passed when a boat can be kept in
competitive racing trim and go cruising in comfort. When I was a kid, Coquina
could literally come back from a 2 week cruise on Friday night and be on the
line Saturday morning and win silver.
Now.......not so much.
So I race on other boats when the urge strikes and Coquina is a second home for
us. This is not to say I don't like to sail fast, but trying to get all the
kids toys, blow-dryers, etc etc off and the racing sails on is too much of a
PITA for us.

Listers,

Though I thought this day would never come (and I'm not saying it has yet), but
given the difficulties in lining up crew, keeping them committed on a regular
basis, and the costs, I'd like to know people's experiences in transitioning
from racing their C&C to a life of cruising.

Anyone here done it? Are you happy you did? I'm very curious to hear your
stories, including the successes and regrets, if any.

All the best,

Edd
