Dwight, The high number I quote pertains only to cruisers who make passages or who stay aboard for a long period of time.
With regard to folks who do weekends aboard or a 2 week coastwise cruise - I'm sure many of them still do the bottled thing - but as you point out - it's easy to do that when you don't have to worry about storage, cost, or waste disposal.
