I believe pretty much all the shafts were XX Strong SS Pipe. I redid mine a
few times, (not the shaft, the rudder) and they welded a solid bar onto the
top of the pipe. Another fellow who used to be on the list (C&C 39) redid
his with a Bob Perry design, looked nice. I think he had competetion
composites redo the fiberglass.  It snapped off just above the rudder a
couple years ago, ( I don't think through any fault of the competetion
composites rebuild) and he had a new one made in Mexico with a solid shaft.
Bet that one is heavy. Mine is nearly neutral weight in water.
