Ok - I wanted to clarify because I DL'd maps for NA & EU so that I
wouldn't need the data connection.

I turn my phone to flight-mode and turn on the GPS when I'm still in the
terminal.  Then after takeoff, when I'm allowed to turn on electronics,
I take out my phone and enjoy the moving map display :)  Using the GPS
logger gives me flight track info for the whole track ... usually.
