No, mainly because if people are programming stuff primarily for fun in their free-time, there are more rewarding challenges than supporting old features or making upgrades plug-n-play for other. Open-source is about: *You* want something? Then write patch (or do whatever is necessary to get it done) *yourself* or *you* find (and motivate, e.g. with money) someone to do it for *you*.
