Given the difficulties of compiling GNU software on anything other than Linux, the freeware site is a very nice resource. Hundreds of packages already compiled for you. Definitely check it out. :)


I suggest you direct IRIX-specific questions to comp.sys.sgi.admin. There are plenty of experts there.
