The DEC Rainbow had an interesting boot loader. It knew the physical
sectors of the io.sys and msdos.sys. so 2.0, 2.1 and 3.1 all were different
since the file sizes were different. So version very much mattered.

Also, hard disks had smarter loader, but not by much.

So if this isn't 100% you may be down the habit hole needed the exact right
disk for this machine...
