CDP platform info and 'sh ver' output on every flavor of IOU I have touched
(which is several) all clearly indicate that it is a "Linux" or "Solaris"
platform. This is because IOU is IOS compiled to run on those platforms.
IOU does not have a '2800' image or a '3725' image. It is IOU. It has a
version number, and indicates the OS it is compiled for.

Dynamips, on the other hand, is emulating actual Cisco hardware, and so you
run an image that was meant for a 2600 or 3725 or 7200 router. When you 'sh
ver' or examine CDP neighbors on Dynamips, you see the emulated hardware
platform because the image thinks it is running on the real hardware.

This is why Dynamips is usually a real CPU hog unless well-tuned, whereas
IOU is pretty light. I have fired up over 60 IOU images on a meager box
with a dual-core CPU and 4G of RAM just to try it. Can't do that with
Dynamips.

Jean-Marie,

Would you be so kind as to run a "sho cdp nei" and post the output when you
reply??

My experience from the lab at RTP was that in IOU during the TS section, it
showed up as Solaris running on the neighbor.

My config section actually showed the IOS code, so I am under the
assumption that when I took the lab last, I had real equipment.

However, I cannot see why it would be unreasonable to think that the output
of "sho cdp nei" in IOU could be made to reflect the actual IOS code
running, and not the underlying host OS running on a SPARC box.
