Hi Jay, Yes, it will work fine without multicast-routing turned on. Otherwise we'd have to turn on multicast-routing when ever we run an IGP or HSRP etc.

I've also had a similar issue at a customer site before that turned out to be a faulty SFP on the link between switches. The faulty SFP would allow unicast and broadcast packets across but drop multicast. cheers, Ben. Is there anything that would prevent this multicast from flowing across a trunk? I have a situation where servers in the same VLAN, but plugged into different switches are not able to communicate by multicast. Can anyone explain why this might be?
