December 29, 2014 Highlights:-----------

I’d like to wish all you birders a happy new year and encourage you all to get 
out and get those new year lists going. Actually you are all already doing a 
great job. I’ve been out every day and I can’t seem to break into the top 100 
yet. Just wait till spring!

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------
     12/30: 21 SANDHILL CRANES still being seen from East Road.     1/4: 2 
TRUMPETER SWANS and a GLAUCOUS GULL were seen in the mucklands along Rt. 31.

Madison County------------
     12/30: Highlights of the Madison County - Southern Highlands CBS were 700+ 
SNOW GEESE on Cazenovia Lake, 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS on East Road above New 
Woodstock and 7 EVENING GROSBEAKS and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK at the feeder on 
Carpenter Road near Sheds.     1/3: 2 ICELAND GULLS were seen at the Madison 
County Landfill.

Onondaga County------------
     1/1: 3 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were found at the intersection of Kingdom 
and Lynch Roads in the Town of Van Buren. The SAW-WHET OWL was seen at Beaver 
Lake Nature Center on the Bog Trail.     1/2: A RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and a 
HERMIT THRUSH were found at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery.     1/4: The 
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET and the HERMIT THRUSH were relocated and were the 
highlight of the Skaneateles CBC. Other highlights were a MERLIN and a 
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. A SNOWY OWL continues to be seen at Hancock Airport 
near the car rental area.

Oneida County-------------
     1/1: A SHORT-EARED OWL was found on Jug Point Road east of Sylvan Beach.

Herkimer County-------------
     12/29: A SNOWY OWL was seen on Thompson Road west of Dolgeville.     1/2: 
7 SHORT-EARED OWLS were again seen on Cronkhite Road south of St. Johnsville.

Jefferson County------------
     Several SNOWY OWLS were reported from Jefferson County this week. 
Sightings were from Evans Mills, Dexter, LaFargeville, Chaumont Bay and Point 
Peninsula.
