I use silicone pans also. The only detail is that the cake is ready in less 
time than the aluminum ones so I put the cake on for 3/4 the time the cake 
requires in an aluminum pan and work from there.

I have heard it isnt really all that healthy to use aluminum pans as 
well as non stick. Cast Iron is may favorite way to cook, and I have 
made some really good cornbread with cast iron. My question is, has 
anyone tried to bake a layer cake with cast iron skillets. Just 
wondered how it would turn out. I know for years they were used to 
make upside down cakes. 

Any thoughts?
