I'd like to point out that the usage of settrans is introduced very 
early in the install process of Hurd (especially to get the network up), 
and this is only given as a recipe (on the wiki for instance) without 
explanation of what it actually does.

In this situation, a new user's first reflex is very likely to be 
settrans --help.
