OK ... I change the boot run level to 3 (no GUI (which I wasn't using anyway)) it works.
Does that make any sense ? As I mentioned I'm using ... brlapi_enterTtyModeWithPath(NULL, 0, NULL) instead of brlapi_enterTtyMode(BRLAPI_TTY_DEFAULT, NULL) so the program can connect to brltty.
