Interesting. I'm fairly new to the list, but still don't remember everything. /grin/ I am far from catching up but am having fun learning from all of you.

In spending some time with this Alva without the computer, I'm getting some sort of feel for the controls... There sure are a lot of them, which is great because of the navigational control it gives. Which is why I did look into the Alva and thus ended up having this loaner to try out. Hm... I've never really spent time working on an 80-cell of any kind, either, so I'm curious as to whether the longer reading line for most of the things I work on or want to get back to is as good as it sounds because of the arm motion...

Well, I have learned a lot about BRLTTY and using it for real work (of sorts) through this, so it ain't a bad thing. /grin/

Some people on this list have managed to get the Alva BC640 working, but
difficulties were encountered with the firmware as Dave indicated. I can't
remember any mailing list posts about a BC680, but I could be wrong. I would
expect the 640 and 680 to have very similar firmware, however.

I read the list regularly, but I certainly don't remember everything that is
posted. I personally use a display from Baum that works very well with BRLTTY.
Alva have always had a very good reputation for the quality of their equipment.
I don't know whether this has changed at all following their merger with
Tieman to form Optelec, though.
