There are a lot of moddable games out there to be sure.
Now I did do this on a radio show, a dnd style type deal but with
sighted games that allowed for turn based choices, some older games,
adventure, story driven games with choices and other types.
In those situations everyone joined a teamtalk server or wrote into the
host on twitter msn or other such thing when asked to do so.
You listend to the game in question and interacted with the host.
I even did a cohosting thing for a while.
It only works if you can afford to play games a lot as a job or have the
cash to buy games and console.
In this situation the broadcaster did work a reasonably high paying job
at a large company and was payed well.
He was able to afford every console under the sun, pluss games including
getting all the latest and greatest all the time.
He would run shows each week playing through batman, simon the saucerer
and other titles some on computer, some on consoles and some on tablets.
He could see and controled the games when a decission came out for him
to choose he asked what should be done and it was a vote based system.
The shows went for 3 or 4 hours a day and were really good.
Then he downgraded to a smaller job, got a wife, a house and a life and
like a lot of people before and after him is now history.
If you can get that sort of interaction or a friend that will play off
or online with you or a social school group or something to play things
like aibs odyssey then just about any game with turns and multiple
choices can be played because you are just deciding on what to do, as a
team and 1 person that can see is actually playing the game.
Its not as close as playing the thing yourself but it is and can be fun.
One thing that we have not mentioned is the load of smart audio speakers
which by their definition are audio devices, things like the amazon or
google line of speakers.
These lend themselves to trivia games, adventure games and interactive
fiction audio drama audio books with choice of games like questions or
ffproject like things with dice roles.
So that does level the playing field some what in this reguard.
The latest consoles like the microsoft xbox 1, xbox 1x and xbox s mean
for the most part while there may be a few more things to do with
getting some mainstream stuff to work at least bits of your stuff can be
accessible to a point.
Its doubtfull we will have everything our way of course but at least any
modern games from 1-3 years back from now on has a hope of being if not
completely accessible, playable enough for at least some enjoyment.
Thats the good news.
Sadly its not spread all the way, soni has started because of laws but
not done much and nentendo hasn't at all.
Worse any older consoles you are out of luck.
Steam while its web based is a bit hit and miss.
And while I could probably play it to some extent, I simply choose to
not do so and tell everyone its not accessible simply because I really
don't like the attitude of valve.
Saying that valve and its smaller companies have not had good
relationship with some developers with licencing to because some that
have done youtube streams have complained about it all.
And yes while steam client is accessible, its barely working which is
stupid because most of it is web based.
That is also another thing, the reason a lot more games and programs are
naturally accessible is because a lot of them are either totally web
based or have a web based component.
A lot of screenreaders are made to take advantage of web stuff a lot
these days especially with the use of the cloud services about.
So in that reguard because of what they use there is potential to be
accessible enough that either its easy to go the rest of the way or you
can well become a bit more accessible than you otherwise could be.

I actually think the digital topic is less hopeless.
Over the 15 or so years I've been playing audiogames, I've seen both
the frequency of directly playable games, and games that could be
easily modified by the developer to be screen reader friendly increase
exponentially.
This is both due to the rise of mobile gaming and more indi
developers, and improved compatibility of technology like html5, and
is definitely a good thing.
We're even seeing more experimental audiogame projects as I said, and
there are of course several very dedicated audiogame developers still
out there.
I see this trend very much as increasing in the future.
Analogue gaming ironically is rather worse off.
As usual it's the old arguement, %90 of blind people are over
seventies, so much of the specialist equipment is only aimed at that
age group.
You can get braille playing cards or monopoly of course, but braille
adapted boardgames or rpg dice? No way.
I was even once told by the RNIB Here in Britain that "blind people
aren't interested in those sorts of things" when I raised the issue
(then again the RNIB is so biased towards the elderly it's unbelievable).
I have heard of a company, 64 oz games who do produce some adapted
cards etc, though what their current state is I don't know.
Unfortunately it's also a chicken and egg situation, since without the
adaptation there, it's really hard to find groups of role players and
gamers offline, particularly as I said with tabletop games having
fallen off in favour of ccgs and wargames with miniatures it seems.
I got lucky for quite a few years because friends of friends from
university were running games, but unfortunately, between said players
deciding to have children, and my wife and I moving to a small town
without a university we can't find anyone to play with anymore, even
if we could find adapted materials to do so, indeed as I said, it
seems most people over thirty are obsessed with their offspring or
poisoning their brain cells to the exclusion of everything else.
so these days, digital gaming is likely all there is, so it's good
things are improving.
all the best,
Dark.
