Survey completed, though I will admit I took the initiative and assumed
when you speak of "card and board games" you would also count tabletop
role-playing, what are sometimes incorrectly called pen and paper rpgs,
since while I've not played much by way of standard board or card games
offline, or heck even interesting board or card games, I did do a lot of
tabletop gaming at one point and would love to do it again if I could
just find another group.
Sadly it seems most people over the age of thirty are only interested in
increasing the worlds' population and/or killing their brains with
alcohol, and even when I've tried the places that should! promote
tabletop games such as gaming shops, they only seem to do ccgs and
tabletop miniature wargames which are %100 inaccessible, indeed a
cynical part of me wonders if they promote those since those are the
interests they can sell more supplies at, where as rpgs don't need more
than the odd rulebook or set of dice.
It's a major shame, especially since my wife hadn't done it before, but
loved the one occasion she got to try it out and really wants to do
more, but it seems to have completely fallen off the map as an interest,
at least around here.
Indeed it's odd, online gaming wise I'm very much a loner. I don't mind
dropping someone a healing potion or doing some light trading, but I'd
rather go off and explore the world myself, complete quests where I can
make a difference and generally be my own master than try to get into
rping with anyone else. However, offline around a table, with a real
human Gm whose as adaptive as the players, that changes absolutely!
indeed, part of the reason I don't like role-playing online, is that it
seems so pale to me compared to the real thing.
Anyway, at least I got to do it for a bit.
