to claim that 9.18 is horrendous is not a good verdict for
this sofware and ISC in general. I personnally recommend to
use and install this version which can be found on Ubuntu 22.04.04 LTS :

stock@vax-linux:~$ dpkg -l bind9
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version                    Architecture Description
+++-==============-==========================-============-====================>
ii  bind9          1:9.18.28-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 amd64        Internet Domain Name>
stock@vax-linux:~$

It's unfortunate that the official maintainer Ond?ej Sur <ond...@isc.org>
is not recognizing good and stable versions and putting warning lables
out on beta and alpha versions.
The lead developer apparently does not discrmiminate between good versions and
beta versions. That he instead then starts to dismcriminate between people who
are "good and stable" persons and "beta and alpha" persons is unfortunate.

"We welcome any bug reports, but such language is not welcome here.
The mailing list is not meant for insulting developers"

Agreed there is no room for insulting developers.

Removing a user from this list is IMHO not the best way to treat an issue.
