That works, and in fact can be easier than using Bacula as a whole. 
But it reaches its limits fast - no restores to other clients, for 
example.

Also, assuming that you might need more files from that job soon, it's 
convenient to have it in the catalog again.

Finally, if you don't want to release the tape drive from Bacula for 
the restores, you have a problem using bextract. Of course, to bscan 
the tapes, you still need the drive released...

Which is a safe assumption, as otherwise you might be forced to scan 
all your tapes. Which would be a completely different problem.
