What's so bad about backports?

I honestly don't know whether they are already available / it makes sense to 
have them.
With Etch so close to release, you might as well try upgrading :-?


Some people have already built backports in the past, or I could try to 
maintain them, given enough interest... can't promise a thing as of yet, though.
