There was some talk of allowing people to disable the cache in configure.in, but I don't recall whether it was in Akim's deluge. I agree that the move to the next autoconf will be hard for you. Redefining AC_DEFINE and other autoconf macros was never supported, though. You must have suspected that this would be a problem in the future. T
