Hi Lee. Is audio & usb_midi showing up on Bob's lsmod likely to have any 
influence on this behaviour?  I thought these OSS modules were being removed 
as deprecated, and at least would need adding to the hotplug blacklist if 
still showing on the list.


Bob. The command on Fedora Core for loading snd-seq-midi at bootup is.
/sbin/chkconfig alsasound on
IIRC the command on Mandrake was.
/sbin/chkconfig alsa on
